Ipswich Town Sign Burnley Midfielder Florentino Luis for £16 Million

Newly-promoted Ipswich Town reinforce squad with £16m signing of Burnley midfielder Florentino Luis on a five-year deal.

Ipswich Town have completed the £16 million signing of midfielder Florentino Luis from Burnley on a five-year contract, bolstering their squad ahead of their Premier League return.

The 26-year-old midfielder made 33 appearances for Burnley in an unsuccessful fight against Premier League relegation under former manager Scott Parker. Florentino had initially joined Burnley on loan from Benfica before completing a permanent transfer in June.

“It feels brilliant to be a part of this club,” Florentino said following the move. “I think I will be very happy here. I like how the club sees the future and there are a lot of good players.”

Highlighting Ipswich’s direction as a primary factor in his choice, he added: “How the club is thinking to the long-term is one of the main reasons I came here. I can bring experience and balance to the team, between defence and attack, and I like to bring the connection.”

The arrival of Florentino comes during a summer of change for Ipswich Town, who secured automatic promotion to the top flight after finishing second in the Championship behind Coventry last season.

Following promotion, manager Kieran McKenna stepped down from his position. Former Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil was subsequently appointed to take charge of the team ahead of the new campaign.

Ipswich officially start their Premier League schedule on August 22 with a home match against Sunderland.
