Starmer Voices Concern Over Putin’s Role in Trump’s Proposed Peace Council
UK Prime Minister questions Russian President's potential involvement in U.S. initiative amid ongoing conflict.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has raised concerns over the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin joining a “Peace Council” proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump announced on Wednesday that Putin had accepted his invitation, though the Kremlin later clarified that the Russian leader would consider the proposal before giving a definitive response.
Speaking to Channel 4 News, Starmer said, “I obviously have concern about Putin’s presence on a Peace Council. He is waging war in a European country. Bombs are raining down on Ukraine.”
The British prime minister emphasized the need to maintain focus on ongoing events in Ukraine. “We must not let the events of last week distract us,” Starmer added, underscoring the continued humanitarian and geopolitical stakes in the conflict.
Analysts note that Trump’s proposal, which aims to involve multiple world leaders in a peace-focused advisory body, has already drawn scrutiny from Western governments. Starmer’s remarks reflect broader skepticism in Europe about engaging Russia in diplomatic initiatives while hostilities in Ukraine continue.
