Chelsea Reportedly Eyeing Surprise Reunion with Former Star Antonio Rudiger
Blues linked with a potential £8.5 million bid for the Real Madrid defender amid defensive needs.

Chelsea’s recent run of results could prompt an immediate investment in a central defender during the current transfer window. Reports link them to a surprising target, who could potentially become Liam Rosenior’s inaugural signing as head coach.
Spanish outlet Fichajes indicates Chelsea’s interest in Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger. The German international is nearing the final six months of his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, leading the Blues to reportedly believe they could secure him for a mere £8.5 million.
Rudiger previously played for Chelsea, where he lifted the Champions League and FA Cup trophies, before moving to Real Madrid as a free agent in 2022. He has maintained his status as one of the world’s top defenders in Madrid, making Chelsea’s reported interest less of a shock.
The 32-year-old has faced some fitness challenges this year. However, the Chelsea board reportedly values his experience and leadership highly, especially given the first-team’s relatively young and inexperienced squad.
Rudiger January Move Appears Unlikely
Antonio Rudiger would offer a significant short-term boost to the Chelsea squad, and despite his age, he would likely command a regular starting spot at centre-back. A January transfer, however, seems improbable.
Xabi Alonso reportedly views Rudiger as a vital component of his plans. With Eder Militao sidelined until March or April and Dean Huijsen in his debut year in the Spanish capital, the Real Madrid boss would likely prefer to retain such an experienced player.
Chelsea could pursue Rudiger as a free agent in the summer if he does not extend his contract with Real Madrid. For now, however, the Blues will need to explore alternative options, as indications suggest their former player is set to remain at the Bernabeu.
