Braves Target Randy Arozarena for Left Field in Free Agency
Mariners expected to decline matching offers for veteran Arozarena

The Seattle Mariners are unlikely to match a substantial contract for Randy Arozarena, opening a path for other clubs. The organization generally avoids paying a premium to players over 30, preferring to rely on younger internal options to replace veterans. That reluctance makes the 31-year-old available to Braves outfield free agency contenders willing to exceed the market norm.
Arozarena brings a bat that addresses a specific weakness. He recorded 26 home runs and a .281 average this season for the Seattle Mariners, complementing three All-Star selections and consecutive honors in the Pacific Northwest. While his defense presents a liability, the Braves struggled to generate offense during the postseason, making his production a priority.
Atlanta enters the offseason with Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II expected to return, securing the outfield’s other corners. That stability, however, leaves left field unresolved after Mauricio Dubón departs as a free agent. Mike Yastrzemski filled the role this season but did not meet expectations.
Competition for the position could drive prices higher. The Philadelphia Phillies and other clubs are pursuing outfield upgrades, with Seiya Suzuki rated alongside Arozarena as a top option. Atlanta may need to overpay to prevent a rival from gaining an edge in the competitive MLB free agents market.
No agreement has been announced as the market develops.
