Arsenal Tracks Dortmund’s Maximilian Beier for Arteta’s Attack

Arsenal Eyes Dortmund Forward Maximilian Beier

Arsenal has expanded its European scouting operations by evaluating Borussia Dortmund forward Maximilian Beier, according to industry reports. The versatile 23-year-old Germany international has emerged as a potential addition to Mikel Arteta’s attacking rotation.

Beier joined Borussia Dortmund in August 2024 from TSG Hoffenheim for approximately €30 million ($32.6 million). He signed a five-year contract running through June 2029, and his move to the Westfalenstadion followed a breakout 2023–24 campaign in which he scored 16 goals in 33 Bundesliga matches.

Arsenal recruitment staff have identified tactical similarities between Beier and current Gunners forward Kai Havertz. Their assessment has focused on Beier’s ability to operate between defensive lines, exploit half-spaces, and rotate across multiple forward positions rather than function purely as a traditional penalty-box target.

The North London club has maintained a regular scouting presence at Dortmund fixtures this season while monitoring Beier’s progression after his high-profile transfer within the Bundesliga earlier this year, according to reporting from Teamtalk. Beier’s senior development also included a two-year loan spell with 2. Bundesliga side Hannover 96, where he made 68 appearances and registered 15 goals.

Arsenal’s renewed focus on the German market follows a summer transfer window in which the club explored elite attacking reinforcements across the continent. Before Julián Álvarez completed his $104 million transfer from Manchester City to Atlético Madrid in August, the Gunners had expressed formal interest in the Argentine forward.

The club later broadened its target list toward attackers offering fluid positional flexibility within Arteta’s 4-3-3 structure. Across his top-flight and developmental career, Beier has recorded 20 goals and 14 assists in senior club competitions.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have also gathered technical data on the forward. Both Premier League clubs conducted scouting assessments on Beier during the summer window before finalizing deals for other targets, with Tottenham signing Dominic Solanke and Manchester United bringing in Joshua Zirkzee.

Arsenal’s front line currently relies on Havertz alongside Brazilian international Gabriel Jesus. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard provide support out wide as the club competes across the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and domestic cup tournaments.

Arteta and the recruitment department have prioritized depth players capable of sustaining high pressing intensity while adapting to varied defensive blocks. Beier earned selection to Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for UEFA Euro 2024 after his 16-goal Bundesliga season.

Dortmund remains under no financial obligation to entertain offers for Beier, having secured the forward on a long-term commitment under head coach Nuri Şahin. Any future approach from Premier League suitors would require significant negotiations, given Dortmund’s established history of holding firm valuations on newly acquired German international talent.
