Real Madrid opens Jude Bellingham contract talks over deal through 2030 or 2031
The proposed wage restructure would bring the England midfielder closer to the club’s top earners.

Real Madrid has begun early negotiations with Jude Bellingham over extending his contract through at least 2030 or 2031. The England midfielder’s current deal runs until June 2029, and the proposed changes include a wage restructure to reflect his status among Europe’s elite performers.
The club is seeking to bring the 21-year-old’s remuneration into line with top earners Kylian Mbappé, a summer signing, and Vinícius Júnior. Talks are ongoing and no agreement has been finalized; Real Madrid is also aiming to deter interest from Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, which all tried to sign Bellingham before his move to Spain.
Madrid’s approach follows a broader strategy of securing its younger core on long-term contracts. Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Rodrygo and Vinícius Júnior have all signed deals extending toward the end of the decade. The club anticipates resolving the final details of Bellingham’s revised contract in the coming months.
Bellingham joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in June 2023 for an initial €103 million ($111 million), with add-ons that could bring the total package to about €133.9 million. His original six-year agreement included a standard €1 billion release clause, a mechanism club president Florentino Pérez has consistently used to protect key players from buyouts by foreign clubs.
Manchester City had carried out extensive groundwork to sign Bellingham in early 2023, with manager Pep Guardiola holding discussions with the player’s representatives before he chose Real Madrid. Premier League clubs have continued to monitor his progress in Spain, and Madrid’s push for an updated deal is intended to close off potential avenues for a departure for the foreseeable future.
In his first season under manager Carlo Ancelotti, Bellingham scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. His performances helped Real Madrid win La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and the Supercopa de España. He also received the 2023 Golden Boy award, the Kopa Trophy and the La Liga Player of the Season award.
Bellingham began his professional career at Birmingham City, which retired his No. 22 shirt after he left the club at age 17.
