Hollywood’s entertainment industry was left in shock following the tragic death of American actor James Ransone, who starred in the acclaimed series “The Wire.” Ransone was 46 years old.

U.S. authorities officially confirmed that James Ransone died by suicide, having taken his own life by hanging at his home in Baltimore County in the U.S. state of Los Angeles, according to records from the state medical examiner’s office.

Reports indicated that the primary motive behind Ransone’s suicide remains undetermined. However, hours before his death, his wife, Jamie McPhee, launched a humanitarian fundraising campaign for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 2, 1979, Ransone publicly revealed in 2021 that he was a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. He stated he was repeatedly abused by a former teacher at his family’s home in Phoenix, Maryland, when he was 12 years old.

Ransone attended the Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson, Maryland, from 1993 to 1997. The specialized school attracts talented students, allowing them to major in subjects such as theater, dance, writing, fine arts, and film, alongside all mandatory academic subjects.

In a 2016 interview with global magazine “Interview,” the American actor spoke about his struggle with drug addiction, detailing his battle with heroin. He stated he recovered at age 27 after years of substance abuse.

Ransone appeared in several international series and films, notably “The Black Phone,” both parts of “It,” as well as “Poker Face,” “Seal Team,” “50 States of Fright,” and “The First.”
