Manchester United Offered AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek Amid Midfield Search
Red Devils eye former Chelsea midfielder as potential January transfer target to bolster squad depth.
Manchester United are reportedly exploring options to strengthen their midfield, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek emerging as a potential target from AC Milan. The English midfielder has struggled for consistent playing time in Italy, and his contract with the Rossoneri runs until June 2027, potentially allowing United to secure a favorable deal in the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.
Midfield Needs at Old Trafford
United face a midfield dilemma: Casemiro, over 30, remains the team’s primary experienced anchor, while Manuel Ugarte is unlikely to feature in the club’s long-term plans. Kobbie Mainoo, though promising, represents a medium-term solution. Loftus-Cheek’s arrival could provide both immediate reinforcement and depth for the next season.
Loftus-Cheek’s Premier League Experience
The 29-year-old midfielder brings valuable Premier League experience from his time at Chelsea, where he won two league titles. Known as a box-to-box player, Loftus-Cheek combines defensive work rate with vision for forward passes, alongside physicality and stamina that make him an effective presence in central areas.
If the transfer proceeds, Loftus-Cheek could join Michael Carrick in adding tactical flexibility to United’s midfield. His role would be crucial for the remainder of the season and in providing depth ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, potentially complementing other targets such as Ruben Neves from Al-Hilal.
United’s management is reportedly assessing whether a mid-season signing could stabilize the squad’s engine room and bolster competition for places, particularly with European fixtures and domestic challenges in play.
