Egypt Records Over 118,000 Traffic Violations in 24-Hour Enforcement Drive
Nationwide crackdown targets speeding, drug driving, and licensing infractions.

Egyptian traffic authorities have conducted extensive campaigns across the country, documenting 118,019 diverse traffic violations within a 24-hour period. These operations, coordinated by the General Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior alongside various security directorates, aim to bolster road discipline and mitigate accident rates.
The enforcement efforts, carried out under the directives of Interior Minister Major General Mahmoud Tawfik, addressed a spectrum of infractions. Key violations identified included driving without licenses, exceeding posted speed limits, illegal parking, using mobile phones while driving, and non-compliance with licensing conditions.
As part of the nationwide crackdown, authorities screened 1,366 drivers for substance abuse. Of those tested, 63 individuals registered positive results for narcotics.
Separately, targeted campaigns focusing on the Regional Ring Road, particularly within its construction zones, recorded 757 varied traffic violations over the same 24-hour timeframe. These specific infractions encompassed issues such as passenger overloading, breaches of licensing terms, and concerns related to vehicle safety and durability. During these operations, 108 drivers underwent drug testing, with six cases confirming substance use. Additionally, authorities apprehended 12 individuals who were subject to a total of 14 outstanding judicial judgments.
One vehicle was impounded for violating traffic regulations. All requisite legal measures have been initiated against the offenders.
