YouTube’s Mobile Redesign: Users React to Shifting Interface

The video platform is testing significant changes to its mobile app, prompting mixed feedback from its user base.

YouTube has begun testing a new design for its mobile application. Early user feedback on these changes appears divided.

Users on Reddit report a redesigned interface for video playback. The video title now appears next to a larger channel profile image. This new placement often results in the title being truncated due to reduced display space.

The new layout also displays the channel’s username instead of the creator’s commercial brand name. This shift has generated confusion among some users.

Buttons located below the video, such as like, share, and download, now appear as icons only. They have lost their descriptive captions. The notification bell has also moved into this same carousel of icons.

YouTube Shorts are also undergoing a new visual test. Buttons within Shorts have become smaller and appear cleaner, providing more space for content. However, some users have described these new icons as “ugly.”

The double-tap gesture for liking a video remains unchanged. The accompanying confetti animation also persists.

Major platforms with billions of users often face scrutiny with design overhauls. While many users currently view these new tests negatively, the long-term impact on overall user experience remains to be seen. Users typically adapt to interface changes over time.
