Maresca Reaffirms Chelsea Commitment as Man City Links Emerge
Chelsea Head Coach Dismisses Speculation Amidst Guardiola Succession Rumors

Reports from THE ATHLETIC emerged linking Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s head coach, to a potential move to Manchester City next summer. The Italian manager was suggested as a possible successor to Pep Guardiola. Maresca addressed these claims during his press conference, held ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League match against Newcastle United.
Maresca was directly asked to confirm his continued presence at Chelsea next season. “Certainly yes,” he affirmed. He stated, “Again, I have a contract until 2029, and these are just speculations.”
“I have nothing to add,” Maresca continued. He explained his disinterest, saying, “If the talk continues, it means I care about it.” He confirmed his focus remains solely on the upcoming Newcastle match and his current work.
“This matter does not affect me at all,” Maresca stated. He explained, “I know it’s just speculation.” He added, “At this moment, I don’t have time for such things, first and foremost because my contract here extends until 2029.”
What Did Maresca Say About Chelsea’s Goals?
The Italian coach reiterated his commitment to Chelsea. “My focus is only on this club,” he stated, adding, “I am very proud to be here.” He dismissed the reports as “just speculation,” noting similar rumors about Juventus a week prior in Italy. “I don’t pay attention to it, because I know it’s not true,” he concluded.
“It is important now to understand why this news is spreading,” he added. He quickly clarified, “But that is not my concern, I don’t care about it at all.”
Maresca then addressed Chelsea supporters directly. “Just continue to support the team,” he urged, “as you have done since I joined the club, and as you have done in the past too.” He asked them to “trust the process that the team and the club are implementing.” For more on Chelsea’s season, visit Sky Sports.
