The Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the arrest on Saturday, explaining that the action followed a tip-off from NATO\u2019s internal security apparatus. Federal agents conducted coordinated searches on Thursday targeting the suspect\u2019s residence and her workspace within the military complex, before officially detaining her on Friday.<\/p>\n

According to judicial authorities, the suspect\u2014identified as a Canadian national of Chinese descent who was serving as an intern at the facility\u2014faces formal allegations of gathering intelligence on behalf of an unidentified third state and participating in a criminal network.<\/p>\n

Located in Mons, approximately 70 kilometers southwest of Brussels, NATO’s operational command center<\/a> serves as the strategic heart of the 32-nation alliance. While political delegations and ambassadorial summits take place at the alliance’s headquarters in the capital, SHAPE is responsible for directing all joint military operations, strategic planning, and tactical deployment. The site also houses NATO’s Cyber Security Centre, making it a critical hub for defensive communications and cyber warfare monitoring across member states.<\/p>\n
