Samsung Electronics has secured a major contract valued at more than $200 billion to manufacture advanced semiconductors for Broadcom Inc.<\/a>, intensifying the global competition to supply critical infrastructure for Artificial Intelligence<\/a> applications.<\/p>\n

The five-year deal, extending through 2030, focuses on producing custom silicon using Samsung\u2019s sub-2-nanometer process nodes. The pact establishes an expanded operational bridge between the two companies across both memory supply and contract fabrication.<\/p>\n

Transitioning to sub-2-nanometer manufacturing represents a crucial milestone in semiconductor physics. At this scale, chipmakers migrate from standard FinFET transistor architectures to Gate-All-Around (GAA) structures, which wrap the channel on all four sides to minimize electrical current leakage and substantially boost energy efficiency in high-density data centers. The massive order provides Samsung with a significant strategic counterweight to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), which currently controls the majority of global advanced foundry capacity.<\/p>\n

Under the terms of the agreement, Samsung will support Broadcom\u2019s next-generation artificial intelligence accelerators with both memory components and complex 2.3D and 2.5D advanced packaging. These multi-chip packaging techniques place high-bandwidth memory dies and logic processors onto a shared silicon interposer. By reducing the physical distances signals must travel between memory and processing units, 2.5D integration overcomes internal bandwidth bottlenecks that often limit severe AI model workloads.<\/p>\n

The strategic deal was finalized alongside South Korean President Lee Jae Myung\u2019s ongoing visit to an artificial intelligence summit in Silicon Valley<\/a>. The regional summit has catalyzed several major technology agreements, including collaborative partnerships linking Nvidia Corp.<\/a> with South Korean digital platforms Naver Corp. and SK Hynix Inc.<\/p>\n

South Korea is currently pursuing aggressive policy targets to double its domestic memory manufacturing capacity within five years. As global tech giants rush to construct specialized hardware systems, securing tight alignment between logic foundries and high-density memory facilities has emerged as a cornerstone of national technology strategy.<\/p>\n
