Around 200 software and hardware engineering positions have been eliminated at Apple<\/a> as the company scales back immediate spatial computing investments to reallocate resources toward lightweight AI smart glasses and next-generation language models, according to details reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The workforce reductions hit two specific divisions. Roughly 100 job cuts targeted the Vision Pro<\/a> group, specifically personnel building immersive video pipelines and specialized gaming experiences. Another 100 positions were eliminated from software divisions tasked with maintaining the legacy architecture of the Siri<\/a> assistant.<\/p>\n

“While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles,” Apple said in an official statement addressing the restructuring. The company added that affected employees would be supported during the transition and allowed to apply for open internal positions.<\/p>\n

Behind the retrenchment in spatial media lies the high capital cost of producing custom immersive video assets.
