REUTERS/Tingshu Wang

Organizers of the ongoing World Robot Conference in Beijing reported that over 300 exhibitors—predominantly domestic enterprises—are showcasing more than 2,000 robotic displays and introducing upwards of 150 new products through Sunday.

This year’s exhibition arrives during a wave of venture capital flowing into humanoid technology, which Beijing views as a critical engine for industrial expansion and a primary front in its ongoing technological rivalry with the United States.

This commercial acceleration is backed by policy directives from Beijing. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has designated humanoid robotics as a transformative frontier industry, establishing national targets to achieve mass production and develop a robust domestic supply chain to rival Western competitors.

Public market enthusiasm was on display Wednesday as shares of Unitree, a prominent domestic humanoid developer, surged nearly six times their offer price during their Shanghai debut, following an initial public offering that attracted retail subscriptions exceeding 8,000 times the available shares.

In the wake of Unitree’s successful market debut, representatives from startup Lumos Robotics and the robotics wing of major vehicle exporter Chery Automobile confirmed to Reuters that they are also evaluating potential initial public offerings.

Nvidia Executive Evaluates Chinese Innovation

Madison Huang, a high-ranking executive at Nvidia and daughter of chief executive Jensen Huang, made an unscheduled appearance at the Beijing venue, observing acrobatic and choreographic demonstrations by various humanoids before examining sensor specifications at a personal-assistant robot exhibit.

Huang, whose presence generated significant interest among attendees, directs marketing for Nvidia’s Omniverse and robotics divisions, which provide the software frameworks required to simulate and validate physical AI systems designed to interact with real-world environments.

Related: Unitree reveals highly agile robot model ahead of historic Shanghai stock market debut

Her high-profile tour underscores the persistent reliance of Chinese developers on international component suppliers, even as Washington maintains tight restrictions on exporting advanced Nvidia processors to China amid broader geopolitical friction.

Among the limited number of Western firms exhibiting at the conference, American sensor and vision-system manufacturer RealSense indicated it is actively expanding its commercial distribution partnerships within China’s accelerating robotics sector.

“We see China as a very strategic market for us,” noted Mike Nielsen, the chief marketing officer for RealSense.

“It is becoming the center of humanoid technology,” Nielsen added.

Industrial Drivers of Economic Growth

Speaking during the opening session, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xin Guobin characterized the robotics sector as an essential driver of the nation’s broader industrial modernization and economic output, according to domestic media outlets.

Consequently, domestic manufacturers are aggressively expanding field trials of humanoid systems across factory floors, shipping hubs, and commercial service roles.

“Our most common application scenarios are in logistics,” explained Zhang Dapeng, assistant vice president at Leju, a firm specializing in industrial humanoids, as the company demonstrated models moving and sorting crates and small objects.

Zhang noted that several European manufacturing facilities and Chinese automotive assembly lines have already integrated Leju’s machines to manage logistics containers and load manufacturing parts.

Nearby at the Robotera display, a hybrid humanoid torso mounted on a mobile wheeled platform sorted incoming parcels. A representative confirmed the system has been operational at China Post sorting hubs since last year, utilizing Robotera’s proprietary artificial intelligence.

A humanoid robot traffic police officer developed by SUPCON stands on duty on a street in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China, July 21, 2026. REUTERS

A sales executive reported that Robotera has successfully deployed more than 100 parcel-sorting units across 15 distribution centers throughout the country.

From Pilot Tests to Full-Scale Workforces

In an adjacent pavilion, DexForce demonstrated its humanoid models picking up and packing mobile phones into retail boxes along a simulated assembly line.

According to DexForce representative Nicole Yang, these machines have been active since the beginning of this year at a manufacturing plant operated by Lens Technology, a major supplier of touchscreens to Apple and Huawei.

Yang explained that the systems operate with millimeter-level precision, allowing them to automatically identify and correct placement errors, such as a handset positioned at an incorrect angle.

“In theory, human beings are the most dexterous,” Yang said. “But many workers in factories are unwilling to do this kind of boring work.”

Lumos Robotics is currently utilizing its own robotic systems to automate the construction of core components at its manufacturing facility, with plans to integrate them into final assembly lines in the near future, stated Chief Executive Yu Chao.

Similarly, household-focused developer X Square Robot is preparing to transition its systems past brief residential pilot programs.

Co-founder Yang Qian stated that while their longest continuous residential deployment to date has lasted one month, the company is conducting tests in hundreds of homes this year ahead of a planned commercial rollout next year.

Nielsen of RealSense observed that the market leaders will likely be the manufacturers capable of integrating systems into active production lines, noting that China’s condensed development timelines are forcing the entire supply chain to move faster.

According to Nielsen, this rapid pace has condensed typical development cycles to between six and eight months rather than the traditional three to four years, putting intense pressure on global suppliers to keep pace with Chinese execution.

Read also:

Linkdaze Smart Calendar Cuts Subscriptions to Challenge Skylight in Family Tech

How id Software’s 1996 CD Encryption Failure Gave Away Its Entire Game Catalog

Slack Code Turns AI Agents Into Workspace Teammates for Software Development

China’s leading robotics firms are accelerating the deployment of humanoid machines into warehouses, assembly lines, and homes, pivoting away from novelty exhibitions toward immediate commercial applications.
