Apple Inc. doubled the rated battery lifespan for its iPhone 15<\/a> lineup to 1,000 full charge cycles while maintaining 80 percent of original capacity, up from the 500-cycle threshold set for earlier models. The updated rating applies across the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max following re-testing under updated testing parameters.<\/p>\n

The Maximum Capacity percentage gives you a better idea of the overall condition of your iPhone’s battery. According to Apple, a typical battery is designed to retain up to 80 percent of its capacity when operating under normal conditions. For the iPhone 15 and later models, this estimate is based on 1,000 full charge cycles. For older models, the estimate is that the battery will last up to 500 cycles before degrading significantly. When the battery health drops below 80 percent, your iPhone may still work, but you’ll likely notice a significant decrease in battery life.<\/p>\n

Apple updated its technical support documentation after testing units through 1,000 charging and discharging cycles under standard operating conditions. In iOS 17.4, Apple reorganized the Battery section of the Settings menu on iPhone 15 devices, placing cycle count, manufacture date, and first use date directly inside the primary Battery Health screen.<\/p>\n

If you have an iPhone 15 or newer, Apple provides an easy way to check the cycle count directly in the Settings app. Go to Battery > Battery Health, and scroll down to find your cycle count. If you’re using an older model, Apple doesn’t provide battery cycle statistics natively. This means you’ll have to rely on third-party alternatives, such as the popular Mac app coconutBattery, to check your iPhone’s battery cycle count.<\/p>\n

A complete charge cycle is measured whenever 100 percent of the battery capacity is used, regardless of whether that discharge occurs over a single session or across multiple days. To slow chemical degradation, iOS includes an optimized battery charging<\/a> feature that delays power input past 80 percent until routine daily usage resumes. iPhone 15 models also feature a direct setting that caps charging at 80 percent.<\/p>\n

When maximum battery capacity drops below 80 percent or performance management activates, hardware replacement becomes an option through standard service channels. Out-of-warranty battery replacements for iPhone 15 models cost $99 through Apple Support, compared to $69 for legacy iPhone SE models.<\/p>\n
