MetaMask officially rolled out its self-custodial Agent Wallet on Thursday, entering the increasingly competitive arena of autonomous AI trading by providing programmable guardrails for AI agents executing on-chain transactions.<\/p>\n
The product targets algorithmic traders and developers building autonomous agents across Hyperliquid<\/a> and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible networks, attempting to eliminate friction in machine-driven trading strategies through native gas abstraction.<\/p>\n \u201cNever worry about paying for gas,\u201d the company wrote. \u201cAgents can transfer and swap without holding a chain’s native token for gas; MetaMask settles the network fee in the token being moved.\u201d<\/p>\n Rather than providing autonomous systems with unrestricted key access, Agent Wallet enforces hard smart-contract permissions directly at the wallet layer. Users configure spending caps, restrict interactions to specific allowlisted protocols, and select operational risk thresholds through dedicated “Guard Mode” and “Beast Mode” settings.<\/p>\n \u201cThis security-first model is why Agent Wallet is built around rules, not blind delegation,\u201d MetaMask said. \u201cThe agent can act, but it acts inside the user’s boundaries.\u201d<\/p>\n To safeguard execution flow, transactions are funneled through real-time transaction simulation, threat scanning, and smart transactions MEV protection. MetaMask is also backing eligible transactions with up to $10,000 per month in Transaction Protection coverage for potential losses resulting from transactions that pass security screening.<\/p>\n The deployment natively connects with developer tools and agent execution frameworks including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes, and OpenCode, following a pilot test with approximately 200 early access users in June.<\/p>\n The public launch escalates a battle among Web3 wallet developers vying to capture automated machine liquidity. Coinbase<\/a> introduced its Agentic Wallets in February, while MoonPay rolled out AI agent capabilities in March before expanding its MoonAgents platform to Telegram in July.<\/p>\n
