<a href="https:\/\/www.eBay<\/a>.com”>eBay Inc.<\/a> reported a 51% surge in second-quarter net income to $552 million and raised its full-year financial guidance, driven by a strategic expansion into secondhand merchandise and the deployment of seller-focused artificial intelligence tools.<\/p>\n

Revenue for the quarter grew 15% to $3.1 billion. The performance reflects Chief Executive Officer Jamie Iannone’s focus on non-new-in-season inventory\u2014used and refurbished items that allow the e-commerce marketplace to differentiate itself from retail competitors Amazon<\/a> and Walmart<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To accelerate listing creation on its platform, eBay has integrated proprietary AI features that allow merchants to create listings directly from uploaded product photographs. \u201cYou just basically hold your phone up to something and AI guides you\u201d on pricing, descriptions, and shipping, Iannone said. Adoption metrics indicate immediate engagement gains across its merchant base. \u201cWhen a user uses magical listings, we see 50% more listings per lister in the U.S. and the value of those customers using it is greater, meaning they\u2019re selling more.\u201d<\/p>\n

While offering internal AI tools to sellers, eBay has simultaneously banned autonomous AI shopping agents from operating across its marketplace. The restriction is designed to protect customer experience and preserve commission structures from automated third-party buying software.<\/p>\n

The quarterly earnings coincide with the completion of eBay’s $1.4 billion acquisition of Depop<\/a>, a fashion resale platform popular among Millennial and Gen Z consumers. The transaction accelerates eBay’s strategy to capture broader share in the secondary apparel market.<\/p>\n

In tandem with the deal, the company resolved a $50 million legal matter stemming from litigation involving former chief executive Devin Wenig and a 2019 harassment incident, resolving a major legal issue from its past.<\/p>\n

Product verification remains a central operational component as eBay expands its authenticated inventory and collectible categories. \u201cWe\u2019ve authenticated over 15 million items\u2026 to the best of my knowledge, we\u2019ve never had a counterfeit get through,\u201d Iannone said speaking from a trading-card convention in Chicago<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s why I love days like today where I\u2019m interacting with top sellers.\u201d<\/p>\n
