The Sensex climbed 444 points to finish at 76,922.64, while the Nifty 50 rose 140 points to end at 24,005.85. This recovery, which added over Rs 2 lakh crore to investor wealth, was characterized by a sharp drop in the India VIX\u2014a measure of market volatility\u2014which fell 3% to 13.19.<\/p>\n
While the headline numbers suggested broad optimism, the rally was heavily concentrated in domestic consumption and real estate. The Nifty FMCG index surged more than 2%, led by gains in Dabur, Nestle India, and Hindustan Unilever. This buying interest comes at a precarious time for the sector, which remains highly sensitive to rural demand and inflationary pressures linked to agricultural output.<\/p>\n
The India Meteorological Department<\/a> (IMD) has reported a 40% rainfall deficit for June, a figure that complicates the outlook for the remainder of the season. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments, noted that the market has not yet fully discounted the potential for the monsoon to fall below 90% of the long-term average. Vijayakumar suggested that investors might need to “fine tune portfolios” in favor of “monsoon-proof sectors” like pharmaceuticals and power if the dry spell persists.<\/p>\n Global tailwinds provided much of the day’s momentum. Wall Street\u2019s record-breaking performance in the first half of 2026\u2014where the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached 52,319.20\u2014set a positive tone for Asian markets. Additionally, a decline in Brent crude<\/a> offered relief to the oil-importing economy. Brent crude futures slipped to $72 per barrel amid anticipated talks between the U.S. and Iran, a sharp cooling from the $120 levels seen during earlier Middle East tensions.<\/p>\n Not all sectors participated in the advance. The IT sector acted as a significant drag, with heavyweights such as Tata Consultancy Services and HCL Technologies dropping around 3% each.<\/p>\n Technically, the Nifty remains in a consolidation phase. Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities, observed that the index is hovering around the 24,000 mark with “subdued” momentum. While the short-term trend remains positive, Rupak De identified 23,800 as a critical support level that must hold to maintain the current bullish bias.<\/p>\n
