Shock waves from rising memory chip costs are slamming the consumer graphics card market, driving sudden price increases across Nvidia<\/a> and AMD<\/a> hardware offerings in Asian distribution channels. Prices for select graphics processing units (GPUs) in China<\/a> surged by as much as 20 percent over a seven-day period, leaving premium models selling at markups near 60 percent above official manufacturer suggested retail prices (MSRPs).<\/p>\n

Updated wholesale lists from major add-in board (AIB) partners reveal the scale of the adjustment. Taiwan-based manufacturer MSI adjusted pricing on its RTX 5080 Shadow 3X OC and Ventus models from 9,999 yuan ($1,477) up to 11,999 yuan ($1,773), representing a 20 percent spike in one week. Similar hikes were recorded for MSI’s RTX 5070 Ti Shadow 3X OC, which rose 19.5 percent, and the RTX 5090D V2, which saw a 13 percent increase.<\/p>\n

These adjustments compound existing market markups. MSI’s RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio OC now commands a 54 percent premium over Nvidia’s reference price, while its RTX 5080 Gaming Trio variants hover roughly 57 percent above base MSRP. Chinese hardware maker Colorful has set its RTX 5080 Vulcan W OC at 13,199 yuan ($1,949), marking a 59 percent increase over MSRP, alongside a 58.7 percent markup on its RTX 5070 Ti Vulcan W OC.<\/p>\n

The inflationary pressure is tied directly to escalating contract prices for GDDR6 and high-bandwidth GDDR7 video memory (VRAM), alongside higher manufacturing costs for printed circuit boards (PCBs), cooling solutions, and packaging materials. Because GPU designers supply silicon alongside memory chips as unified kit bundles to board partners, rising component expenses pass immediately down the supply chain. Market tracking shows that memory price hikes translate to cost additions of approximately 600 yuan ($89) for 8GB cards, 900 yuan ($133) for 12GB models, and 1,200 yuan ($177) for 16GB configurations.<\/p>\n

AMD products are facing similar headwind pressures. The chipmaker alerted key board partners including Asus, XFX, and Sapphire that its GPU-and-memory bundles would see price increases of 10 percent. Retail listings across China indicate rising prices for Radeon cards, with several RX 9000 series models experiencing double-digit percentage surges.<\/p>\n

The cost crunch has trickled into older component tiers, creating severe market distortions. Legacy offerings like Nvidia’s RTX 3050<\/a> have surpassed $350 in Chinese retail, while the entry-level GT 1030 is approaching $100. To plug gaps in entry-level inventory, Nvidia re-released the RTX 3060 12GB at its original $329 MSRP, underscoring the severity of current market imbalance.<\/p>\n

According to reports from regional distributors, smaller retail vendors have begun withholding inventory from sale to capitalize on anticipated future price increases, a practice that threatens to exacerbate retail shortages. Industry researchers from DRAM market analysts<\/a> project memory prices could jump an additional 40 to 50 percent in the third quarter, followed by a 30 to 40 percent gain in the fourth quarter. If these wholesale increases spread across international distribution networks, global markets could face GPU price surges of up to 40 percent.<\/p>\n
