The German automaker faces a rapidly expanding market for zero-emission vans, a segment previously less explored by rivals. These updates are set to roll out starting in 2026.

Following the introduction of new body styles for the Volkswagen Transporter range earlier this year, the company has unveiled further enhancements. Both the Transporter and its fully electric Caravelle variant will receive a battery with increased energy capacity, significantly boosting their range per charge and improving market competitiveness.

Enhanced Range and Charging for Caravelle and Transporter

Previously equipped with a 64 kWh lithium-ion battery, both models will now feature a 70 kWh unit. This upgrade extends the single-charge range from 305 kilometers to 380 kilometers, marking a substantial improvement for the entry-level e-Caravelle.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has also integrated a more powerful on-board charger, now capable of handling up to 125 kW. This upgrade reduces the charging time from 10% to 80% capacity to approximately 30 minutes, a reduction of about ten minutes.

This enhancement also allows for the replenishment of enough energy for about 100 kilometers of range in approximately ten minutes. Furthermore, the electric Transporter and Caravelle will now offer an optional 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The Hannover-based commercial division is expanding the variant offerings for these electric vans, partly to bolster sales where the ID. BUZZ has underperformed, by adding an additional electric motor to the front axle.

4MOTION All-Wheel Drive Debuts for Electric Transporter, Caravelle

The 4MOTION system, featuring two uncoupled electric drive units, distributes torque instantly and as needed between the front and rear axles. In most driving conditions, the rear axle serves as the sole drive. All-wheel drive engages only when additional power is demanded, such as during strong acceleration, thereby optimizing available range.

Volkswagen has not yet disclosed specific pricing or detailed versions for the Spanish market. These details, along with launch dates, are expected to be communicated later, though orders will open in Germany in the coming weeks.

Volkswagen is enhancing its electric commercial vehicle lineup to counter intensifying competition.
