Egyptian YouTuber Akram Salam Faces Bullying Trial Amid Prior Blackmail Sentence Appeal

Blogger Akram Salam in Court for Alleged Intimidation, Follows Reduced Blackmail Sentence

The Maadi Misdemeanor Appeals Court, convening at Zeinhom Court, is scheduled to hear the trial of blogger Akram Salam today, Tuesday. The case involves charges of bullying, displaying force, and threatening violence with the intent to intimidate a Jordanian woman.

Public prosecution investigations in case No. 9597 of 2025 Maadi Misdemeanors revealed that Akram Salam, within the Maadi police precinct, allegedly displayed force and threatened violence against the victim, identified as A.A.A. The prosecution states his intent was to disturb public security and peace, assert control, and instill fear among citizens, while he was allegedly in possession of a knife, as detailed in the case documents.

In a separate development, the New Cairo Misdemeanor Appeals Court previously accepted an appeal filed by YouTuber Akram Salam against a three-year prison sentence. That case involved the blackmail of a TV presenter, and the court reduced the sentence to one year with a suspended execution.

Investigations into the blackmail incident had detailed threats, insults, defamation, and attacks on the presenter’s honor by Akram Salam. This stemmed from a dispute involving a woman Salam was associated with before his marriage to a famous female presenter. The woman reportedly sought Salam’s assistance, after which he allegedly threatened and blackmailed the presenter, demanding 260,000 Egyptian pounds if he refused to pay. The court had initially sentenced Salam to three years in prison for this specific case.
