Egyptian Startups Showcase Innovation, Seek Government Backing for Growth

From Solar Robots to Shark Alerts, Egyptian Ventures Eye Expansion

Egyptian startup founders recently presented their innovative projects to the country’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA). During the meeting, they outlined their development and expansion needs, along with the government support crucial for business continuity and growth. Among the showcased innovations were advanced solar energy technologies.

Ramez George, owner of a company specializing in solar power plant maintenance, detailed his firm’s goal to enhance efficiency through innovative cleaning technology. His company manufactures a robot locally in Egypt, boasting a significant domestic component. George explained that this solar panel cleaning technology reduces energy waste from power stations by up to 28%. He aims to export his product and services to regional markets, seeking marketing support to achieve this.

Mahmoud Okasha presented an early warning system utilizing environmental technology to monitor shark movements in the Red Sea. Okasha highlighted his project as the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa. Its deployment could significantly boost tourism in the Red Sea region, assist hotels in obtaining sustainability certifications, and enable authorities to measure marine pollution in Egypt, providing valuable data. Okasha, whose team comprises young specialists in environmental technology and marine science, seeks enhanced cooperation with environmental bodies and financial, technical, and non-financial services from MSMEDA to officially launch his venture.

Alaa Samir Khattab introduced her agricultural technology project focused on creating soilless farming greenhouses. This method aims to conserve water by up to 90% while increasing productivity twentyfold. Khattab is seeking funding or joint investment to help introduce more popular crops, improve their yield, and register fertilizer solutions.

Mohamed Amr Sami, founder of an automotive technology project, outlined his venture involving the manufacturing of smart hydrogen cells for car engines. These cells offer significant environmental and economic advantages, extending engine life and reducing pollution by removing carbon and reusing it in the combustion cycle. Sami noted that his cells have been installed in over 7,000 vehicles across 19 governorates. He is now working to secure the necessary certifications for his pioneering project, which will facilitate the export of this innovative technology to regional markets. Sami also expressed interest in participating in franchise exhibitions.
