Egypt Seizes Over 85 Tons of Subsidized Flour in Bakery Crackdown

Egyptian authorities target illegal flour sales, seizing 85 tons in a 24-hour operation.

Egyptian security forces, in a coordinated effort, seized over 85 tons of subsidized and white flour during a 24-hour crackdown on illicit practices in both free and state-subsidized bakeries.

The operation, spearheaded by the General Security Sector and the General Administration of Supply and Trade Police, in collaboration with various security directorates, targeted a range of supply crimes.

Authorities stated the ongoing campaigns aim to protect consumers, tighten market control, and counter attempts to manipulate bread prices, sell above official rates, and neglect price declarations. These efforts are part of broader government initiatives to regulate essential commodities and ensure food security, particularly concerning the country’s extensive bread subsidy system.

Legal measures have been initiated against those involved.
