Cairo Timber Warehouse Fire Injures 16, Authorities Investigate

The number of people injured in a timber warehouse fire in Cairo’s El-Marg district has risen to 16, all suffering from suffocation. They were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, as civil defense teams continued cooling operations to prevent the flames from reigniting.

Security sources indicated that civil defense teams are still conducting cooling efforts using three fire trucks and a 35-ton strategic water tank.

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber stated that civil defense forces had brought the fire at a timber warehouse on Kafr El-Basha Street in El-Marg under control, with cooling operations underway. He noted that there were no fatalities or injuries from the blaze.

The governor’s remarks came as he oversaw firefighting efforts, accompanied by Major General Mohamed Youssef, Assistant Minister of Interior and Cairo Security Director, along with several executive leaders. Ten fire trucks were on site.

Earlier, Cairo Governorate’s National Emergency and Public Safety Network Control Center received a report of a fire at a timber warehouse spanning approximately 2,000 square meters on Kafr El-Basha Street in El-Marg. The blaze extended to some adjacent properties, with initial reports indicating no injuries or fatalities.

The governor, executive agencies, civil defense forces, and district officials promptly responded to the scene. Civil defense successfully contained the fire and prevented its further spread to neighboring buildings.

Governor Saber announced the formation of an engineering committee to assess the impact on properties near the fire. He also directed the swift removal of debris once the Public Prosecution and criminal investigation complete their site inspection to determine the cause of the incident.
