Cairo Police Unravel Domestic Assault Case After Viral Video

Egyptian Authorities Act on Viral Video Alleging Spousal Abuse

Egyptian security agencies, part of the Ministry of Interior, have revealed details surrounding a social media post that included a video. The post alleged a woman was assaulted by her husband in Cairo, suffering bruises and scratches to her face. It also claimed the husband was a drug user with prior judicial rulings against him.

Upon investigation, authorities summoned the complainant, identified as a housewife with a criminal record residing within the Zawya al-Hamra police precinct. No visible injuries were found on her during examination.

She reported ongoing disputes with her husband, stating he frequently subjected her to verbal and physical abuse, alongside threats against her and her family. She had filed several previous reports detailing similar incidents. The video in question, she explained, was posted last July after an assault, following her refusal to return to the marital home.

Police subsequently apprehended the husband, a trader with a criminal record also residing in the same precinct. Confronted with the allegations, he admitted to committing the assault as described.

Legal procedures have been initiated, and the Public Prosecution is now investigating the case.
