Stephen Curry limps off court at Warriors open practice

Draymond Green followed Curry to the bench as the team prepares for its Oct. 21 season opener against the Lakers.

Stephen Curry limped off the court during a Golden State Warriors open practice, raising immediate questions about his availability for the Oct. 21 season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. The incident occurred just days before the 2026-27 NBA regular season begins.

Footage from the session showed Curry looking down at the hardwood before walking toward the bench. Draymond Green followed him off the floor. The exact nature of the injury was not disclosed by the team.

The scare arrives as Curry enters his 18th NBA season. Head coach Steve Kerr recently offered a blunt assessment regarding the physical realities of managing an aging superstar through a full schedule. Golden State finished the preseason with a 4-2 record, including an Oct. 17 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Curry scored 28 and 20 points in his final two exhibition appearances.

Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg has drawn attention throughout camp after publicly outlining specific statistical targets for his debut campaign. His integration into the rotation is expected to reduce some of the offensive burden on Curry, who turns 39 next March.

Curry played 74 games last season, his highest total since the 2021-22 championship run. He has missed significant time only twice in the past decade — sitting out 56 games in 2019-20 due to a broken left hand and missing 18 contests in 2021-22 with a sprained left ankle and foot ligament damage. Those absences coincided with Golden State missing the playoffs entirely or relying heavily on late-season surges to secure positioning.

Kerr addressed the situation shortly after practice ended, according to team communications, though no timeline for Curry’s return to full participation was provided. The Warriors host their home opener later next week.
