Egyptian Authorities Seize Over EGP 9 Million in Illicit Currency Trading
Crackdown Targets Foreign Exchange Speculation

Egyptian authorities have seized over 9 million Egyptian pounds (EGP) in illicit foreign currency trading operations within the past 24 hours, officials announced on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
The Public Security Sector, in cooperation with the General Administration for Combating Financial Crimes and various security directorates, successfully conducted a series of operations targeting illegal foreign exchange activities.
These actions are part of a sustained security campaign against unauthorized foreign currency trading and currency speculation. The crackdown aims to counter practices such as hoarding currencies from circulation and conducting transactions outside the official banking system, which are deemed to have negative repercussions on the nation’s economy.
Legal measures have been initiated against those involved in these cases.
